Sex and Society II...
Well..
Still thinking about the sex issue.. A lot of the comments have sparked more questions for me!
Please answer them...
Why are men a lot more touchy-feely in this county?
Does it have anything to do with the fact that it is not acceptable to touch women? If it was not a
big deal to touch a women, would men be so comfortable hugging, touching, and holding another man in the middle of the street?
Is a woman who has had her hymen restored considered pure again?
Is she better than the girl without the hymen who was honest enough to say she is not a virgin?
Is it better for a girl to run around and hide everything while going to have a surgery to trick the man she will marry?
Is a woman's morality really judged by some tissue?
Is it better for a woman's psychological state to have the hymenoplasty and then hope to marry a man stupid enough to not figure it out?
Would men prefer that the woman be honest and tell them she is not a virgin? Or would they prefer that the woman have the surgery in secret and never tell them?
The doctors that perform this surgery; do they feel they are helping a woman deceive a man, or do they feel they are saving the woman from a life of shame?
Why are Egyptian women expected to remain virgins while it is acceptable and somehow expected that Egyptian men to be sexually experienced? Who are these Egyptian men supposed to be sleeping with??
Are Egyptian men ok with marrying women who have tried other types of sex.. but kept their hymen intact?

one of my professors in college was very concerned with this topic, though she was concerned with mexican society
"Why are men a lot more touchy-feely in this county?"
I think this is often the case in strong patriarchs. I found Spanish men to be much more 'sensitive' and less macho than their American counterparts. A friend of mine linked it to men who don't feel the need to be manly (as in Egypt) because they are clearly decided as the stronger sex. On the other hand, men who feel the need to establish (or re-establish) their masculinity can be found in societies like the US, where there tends to be more equal footing between the sexes.

I met an Egyptian girl who had clearly contracted genital warts (which she 'shaved off' in the process of removing her leg and pupic hair). She didn't refer to them as warts, because the doctor she went to in order to have them burned off didn't refer to them as warts. He simply burned them off, leaving her wondering why she didn't need an oral medication. It was awkward watching her face as I explained genital warts stay with you for life, even if they're not visible. The scars they had already left...I really think the doctor thought he was sparing her the details that would inevitably lead to shame.
these are all questions that we ask ourselves every day without reaching a conclusion.. we keep on complaining about the situation but the fact remains that no matter how much we complain the situation never changes and people will always stay as hypocritical as they are...
you know what they say... ignorance is a bliss... they'd rather be ignorant and satisfied than having to think how many men their wives had to screw before them...
why is it ok for men to stay nonvirgins but not women?
well men are basically allowed to do everything while women will be regarded as sluts if they do the same... why is dat?
well maybe because the society is male dominated and too fucked up to be changed...
it's sad but true :(
I am back!!!! missed how my blood boils when I read these topics..LOL
well, i want to add a question to the list of questions above....what is the purpose of the hymen? why is it there? I hope you guys know where I am going with this :)
Nora, could you email me and let me know what surgery are you having??? salamtek I really did not know ....have not checked the blogs for a long time....salamtek :-)
Sherif,
I highly doubt that the purpose of the hymen is so that Egyptian men can classify, judge, and persecute women... but I could be wrong! :o)
Seriously, I think that had god intended for the hymen to be so important in judging a women and her purity it would not be so erratic. It would not have so many variations. You would not be able to stretch it or tear it riding a horse and so on. It is possible to have a virgin with no hymen and she would be considered to not be a virgin and that would be unfair. God is a lot more fair than that...
I will e-mail you now about the surgery and such.. thanks for asking, very kind of you!
that is still not a reply to my question :) i need a medical reply....I guess god had a reason for every thing created in our body ??? dont you think? breaking the hymen when riding a horse is the greatest myth women use in Egypt by the way :) this one and playing ballet and being raped when young, etc.... not to be fair to women that really had something like that to them, but come on :)
i am just really curious why is the hymen there????
Wikipedia says there is no known anatomical reason for the hymen.
Sounds good.....it defies reason and religion though that god just creates random things...don't you think?...anyway, i guess by saying this I could open a floodgate of comments since beliefs vary from a person to a person...
So, what are you saying?
Why do you think the hymen exists?
Did Sherif ever tell you why God created a hymen?
You might also ask him about foreskin ... why was it created and why do people remove it?
Marwa,
No, Sherif never told me why hymens exist. If he ever does I will also ask about foreskin...
:o)
Hi Nora...
Medically speaking Hymen is a thin membrane that surrounds the opening to a young woman's vagina. Hymens can come in different shapes. The most common hymen is shaped like a half moon. This shape allows menstrual blood to flow out of a girl's vagina.
There are different types of hymen
Imperforate hymen, Microperforate hymen, Septate hymen
Yogesh,
Thanks...
So, what is the purpose of the hymen?
Medically it has got no specific purpose...according to the thinking of public at large, it is treated to be a virginity figure as regards girls...if, the hymen is intact, the girl is said to be virgin...but, I personally think it to be ridiculous...as on date when the world is moving at such a fast pace...where life keeps moving fast...girls are having strides in lot many aspects of life...how and where hymen comes in picture...
lol
Yeah.. I also found that it had no purpose...
Well, except in some Arab counties and the such..
:o)
you stopped your comment in between Nora...won't you complete it??
Yogesh,
That was the end of my comment.
